Perched above the Wānaka basin with expansive views across the lake and surrounding mountain ranges, this home was designed to create a strong connection between architecture, landscape, and everyday living. The project balances openness and shelter, delivering a contemporary home that embraces its remarkable setting while responding carefully to the challenges of the site.
Tricky & Beautiful Terrain
The clients wanted a home with strong indoor-outdoor flow, generous sunlight and uninterrupted views across the lake and surrounding mountains. The goal was to create a contemporary home that felt open, comfortable and connected to the landscape.
The rugged ground and exposed position required a considered design response. The home needed to work with the natural contours of the site while still maximising sun, shelter and views.
Rural & Urban Living
The layout was carefully positioned to capture sunlight throughout the day and frame the lake outlook from key living and bedroom spaces. Large areas of glazing bring the view inside, while open-plan living areas connect directly to sheltered outdoor spaces for easy entertaining and everyday use.
The result is a contemporary home that feels expansive, grounded, and closely connected to its surroundings.
